GOD’S INCREDIBLE PROMISE!
“You shall decree a thing, and it will be established, and God’s light will shine on that path” (Job 22:28).
When I looked carefully at the above verse, I could hardly believe it! God doesn’t lie, so it’s true! In today’s language, it is saying, “Because you are a child of God, you may decree something as if you are a King. Once a King’s word is spoken, it happens.” This verse promises that God will shine His light of blessing on that path, to make it happen—God’s power will bring it about!
I was blown away by this promise! This was a stronger way of praying than I had ever known before. Up until this time I had prayed about every concern or burden I had—and I would remind God of His promises. I’d say, “You said, God, that You’d supply all our needs—and this is a need,” and God would answer! Job 22:28 was dynamite compared to my normal way of praying! God gave incredible power to those who believe, to decree things—and God promises that it will happen! He will shine His light and blessing on that path.
I tried out this new promise, and made my decree! I had heard Michael W. Smith speak at Aglow, and I had a chance to talk with him afterward. He is Arizona’s foremost authority on deliverance, and I told him about a loved one causing me much chaos! Michael listened, and said, “He has a demon—and it hates you.” I was shocked, but that explained the behavior! It made sense! Did I need to learn about deliverance to help my loved one? That would mean driving to Phoenix every week—a round trip of 200 miles! I asked God and I had three concerns:
“God, if I should drive to Phoenix every week to learn about deliverance, I decree that I will always have someone to go with me, and I decree that we will drive safely down there and back each week, and I decree that each time we drive down to the meetings, we will learn what you want us to learn.”
The next week my friend Nancy and I drove to Phoenix to hear Michael W. Smith speak. We didn’t know that Phoenix was having a torrential downpour, just as we approached, and was flooding in many places. Freeway I-17 has a low spot where it dips under Indian School Road. Cars on the freeway were under water there and people were being rescued! We were just getting into Phoenix, when the traffic slowed and began to stop. I moved into the car pool lane, since it was still moving. As the car pool lane slowed and came to a stop, Nancy said, “Look, Johnnie! There is a perfect path to that exit! God had caused the cars to stop, forming a perfect open path across 4 lanes of freeway, to the exit! I turned the wheel and slowly drove across the four lanes, and off the freeway! God’s light had shone on that path—as in the verse, “His light will shine on that path.” I learned later that people were trapped on the freeway for the next several hours! We found our way along on surface streets, through flooded intersections, where the water was so deep that we prayed that our car wouldn’t stall. God’s hand was on us because of the decree, and we arrived at our meeting! We learned what God had for us to learn just as I had decreed!
Read the promise of Job 22:28 again, and decree it over your needs! “You shall decree a thing, and it will happen, and God’s light will shine on that path!” He caused the cars in lanes one, two, and three, to stop in a way that formed a perfect path for us. The fourth lane was the exit lane, which was also clear. God caused Nancy to see the path he shined His light on, and guided us off the freeway.
“Thank You, God, for this new way to pray! It is a more powerful way than asking You to grant my needs. Thank You that you gave us the rights of a King—to decree something, and then Your power brings it about! Thank You that You shinned Your light on that path!
